Olga Štěpánková has been interested in theoretical foundations of artificial intelligence and in relevant topics bordering mathematical logic as well as in interdisciplinary ICT applications e.g. in medical domain. Her first papers in the 70ties have been dedicated to situation calculus, later she studied logic programming, multi-agent systems and machine learning. Currently her attention is further focused to data mining, e-health and other medical applications as well as to the design of novel assistive tools.

She is author or co-author of more than 100 conference and journal papers, co-author or co-editor of 10 books. She gained considerable experience in international cooperation when participating in number of international activities including 6 EU projects where she acted as national/local coordinator.
